11:23am Mountain Time. I’m surprised to find GPRS signals this far out to no man’s land. Fil’s at the helm for the first time and we have DQ Blizzards to keep us awake. Looks like out gas mileage has dropped to less than 7mpg thanks to rolling hills and a 75mph speed limit. Once we pass Billings, Mont. I suspect it’ll be even worse with the mountains. At leaste we’ll finally have something to look at.
As for the truck, we are getting battered by windsheer. It’s forcing us sideways quite a bit. Passing anyone on an incline is unthinkable. Passing anyone around a turn feels like I’m walking on a tightrope high abone the Grand Canyon.
The V6 engine seems to be struggling at all times. I am flooring the pedal about 40% of the time. It has a hard time finding a cruising RPM, forcing it to kick down quite often. There is no tach, so I don’t get a great sense as to its efficiency, but I suspect that at the loads we are hauling, it doesn’t matter much. Oh, what I would give for a manual tranny right now.
