Two days ago, my rear left tire’s sidewall blew out on the highway. I started with four Michelins in 1999, but they proved to be too fragile and with plenty of tread left, they had to be replaced two at a time due to sidewall problems — we’re talking Chicago pot holes here. When I had to replace the first two (in 2001), I got a pair of Continental Touring tires and I finally finished the set on Tuesday.
Now that I have matching tires, I realized that they’re extremely comfortable and quieter than my Michelins. But I could tell that they didn’t grip as well as the Michelins did. The car drifts a bit more than it used to, but the grip seems to be better – perhaps it’s just because they are new. Why all this talk of tires? They’re the most important part of your car. I kid you not. Do your homework if you’re going to get new tires.
